What are the benefits of a pediatric wheelchair?Pediatric wheelchairs are designed specifically for children with disabilities. In a pediatric wheelchair, the lower leg length, seat depth, seat width and back height, for example, can be precisely adapted to the size of the child. This helps the child to be able to sit stably. Some pediatric wheelchairs can be adapted along with the body growth and development of the child.
Growth Adjustability.Adults don't grow so when they purchase a wheelchair, we know that the wheelchair will still fit them in one, two, three years' time. The same cannot be said for a growing child. Most pediatric manual wheelchairs can accommodate this growth by widening the seat up to 2”. Usually new seat and back upholstery is required. Typically, a child grows approximately 2 ½” per year from the age of 2 years and on, so 3” is a good estimate as to how much growth to incorporate in the wheelchair. When girls hit 8-13 years and boys 10-15 years, larger growth spurts are expected. But each child will vary in their growth based on diagnosis, genetics, and various other factors. Seating specialists understand this and will configure wheelchairs and seating components according to the needs of the individual child.

45° Traditional Tilt Technology The original, premier pediatric tilt-in-space wheelchair, the TS features 45° of traditional tilt technology, meaning the tilt action occurs at a fixed pivot point. The Foot Release Tilt Actuator is easy to operate and eliminates tangles caused by exposed cables.
Growth Capabilities The TS was designed to accommodate the changes your child may experience throughout the life of the wheelchair. Up to 2" of seat width and up to 5" of seat depth adjustments allow the TS to grow, while adjustable components keep your child comfortable and properly positioned during development.
Its lightweight aluminum base is also adjustable so the tilt range can be adjusted 5 degrees forward or back. In addition to a large selection of footrest and armrest styles, the Zippie TS is available with one or two mechanical tilt locks and has built-in frame growth in the seat width and depth.
The Zippie TS is also available in either a standard fixed frame or upgraded folding frame option for transportation or storage.

There are two options for frames. The XP gives you a one-time growth opportunity. Which means you will be sent replacements parts including a new seat pan, so your child is able to grow with the chair. An offset frame is also a choice to make when it comes to if your child needs more leg room.
